This kid won't be able to vote for many years. For now, he lets his arm do the talking.
Many local public figures were invited to participate in a dunk tank at Celebrate Davis! yesterday. Among them were the five city council candidates. While I spent most of the day working the Davis Patch booth, I took a quick stroll around the park to snap some photos. I showed up at the dunk tank just in time to watch candidate Lucas Frerichs get dunked by a kid with an impressively accurate arm. Here's our full City Council election guide. (This is the only story about dunk tanks, I promise). To follow the eletion:

What makes Davis's athletics so special?
I saw CBS 13’s Neda Iranpour at Davis High School today while I was reporting a story about the school's yearbook class. Iranpour was was working on a story about the school’s athletics. All 13 of Davis’s springs sports teams have made the postseason in what the Davis Enterprise calls an unprecedented season for the school. Check out CBS 13’s report, which aired on the 5 p.m. news broadcast, here. Read about the specific sports in Bruce Gallaudet’s Davis Enterprise story. What do you think of Davis High's great season?

A NY Times article explores the era of the $250 baseball bat
Have you bought a baseball glove for your Little Leaguer lately? Did you pay more than $100 for it? How about a $250 bat? A New York Times story headlined "Big Price Tags Attached to Even the Littlest Leagues," looks at the big business of equipping youngsters for participation in youth baseball and softball leagues, quoting those costs and more. "A batting helmet protects tiny heads for $39.99," the NY Times reports. "A pair of Nike Jordan Black Cat cleats will make your child fast and fashionable at $51.99 until he or she outgrows them." So what do you think? Has the cost of bats and gloves taken our kids too far from the simpler days of sandlot and playground ballgames? Or have you had better luck finding more modestly-priced equipment …
