Blog: I'm Getting Married on August 6, (Which is Crazy!)

This website is up and running, now it's time to go get married.

I’m eight days away from my wedding.

This time next week, I’ll be at a rehearsal dinner surrounded by friends and family. That’s absolutely crazy.

When I launched this website about a month ago, I had just moved back to Davis from San Francisco. Life was a cyclone of craziness, but it mostly had to do with finding an apartment and launching a website at the same time.

Exciting, yes. but also exhausting. I don’t recommend it.

But I’m all settled in now, and my fiance has finished her job in the city and joined me in Davis. We’ve got a nice little apartment, a cat named Pele and a beta fish named Leo.

And the website is launched, and it’s gathering some momentum.

In most cases, this would be a good time to settle into a routine and be swept away by the summer, right?

Right.

But not when you’re eight days away from a wedding. And definitely not when that wedding will take place on a farm, meaning every single piece of the puzzle must be arranged individually. There are no pre-assembled packages.

I can’t claim to be the one moving those pieces. My fiance – whose name is Bianca – has stepped up big time in that department, handling all the catering stuff, tables, dance floor, etc.

She’s also hoarding mason jars, crushing walnut shells, collecting old family-wedding photos, sanding discs of wood, and anything else that falls under the umbrella of “crafty.”

My main tasks – music, groomsmen gifts, vow writing --  are all about 25 percent finished, which should make these eight days extra exhilarating. And panicky.

We’re getting married at the Farm on Putah Creek, also known as the Center for Land Based Learning, which is a non-profit farm between Davis and Winters. Not only is it an amazing place (that caters to my fiance's nerdy love for dirt, rocks and all things that drive her mom nuts), but it also has some personal significance to me.

I grew up in Winters, and while I was in high school, one of my best friends lived in the farm house on that property before the landowners transformed it into the main hub of their non-profit.

As a kid, I would go out there and film fake movies and kill time with friends. To think that I’ll be getting married there in eight days is a total trip.

I’m writing this blog in part to give Davis Patch users a glimpse into the life of the editor. It's something I hope to do more often in the future.

I’m also writing it to let you know that I’ll be leaving on a honeymoon shortly after the wedding and will be gone for almost two weeks in August. My future wife is from Ecuador, so we’ll be visiting some of her family there and then skipping off to the Galapagos Islands. Pretty amazing.

She’ll snap tons of photos, and I’ll post a few of them on the site when I get back.

While I’m gone, a guest editor will be manning this ship. I’ll give more information about that when the time comes. Either way, things should go pretty much the same, except for the fact that I won't be the one pulling the strings on the site.

I'll be checking out some giant turtles and brushing up on my Spanish.

But for now, I'll get back to work.
