Davis Schools Won $100K From Patch Last Year -- Here's Where the Money Went

$20,000 has already been spent. The remainder will go toward wireless internet and improved technology infrastructure.

The Davis Joint Unified School District , but how has that money been spent?

Superintendent Winfred Roberson aimed to answer that question in an email to the community last week. Here's an excerpt from his note:

The $100,000 gift, made possible by the Powell family and the strong community support, was designated for technology to improve student learning.  The District Technology Advisory Committee (DTAC) established three goals for the money;  widespread impact on student learning regardless of program or grade, equitable distribution across District school, and responsiveness to common requests from site staff.

$20,000 has already been spent on a district license to California Learns, the enormous clearinghouse of online educational resources, including Common Core standards-based lessons.  The remainder of the generous donation will go to installing wireless access points and upgrading infrastructure in all school libraries across the district.  If all goes according to plan, the new technology could be installed and operational at the beginning of the 2013-2014 school year.  Contact Director of Instructional Technology, Kim Wallace at kwallace@djusd.net for additional information.  Thanks to Fred Gladdis and the Davis Enterprise for the photo.
